Getting the best logo for the lowest price... may not be what you need

First of all, calm down. Getting the "best" logo may not be what you need, and getting the cheapest logo is not what you want.

Getting a logo is a business decision. You have business goals and ways to accomplish those goals. A logo helps you accomplish those goals.

Hopefully your business decision is not that you need a logo because other companies have logos.You need a logo to represent your business, make your business stand out, and make your business memorable. You need it so your business attracts the right customers so it can sell more and make money.

Yes, all this generic shit sounds really good, but yawn, boring. The devil is in the details.

The process of hiring a designer to designing you logo involves at least a 1 hour conversation where the designer asks several questions; a few mockups showing the logo being used as specified; and maybe a few iterations of the logo based on feedback.

That is considerable work. It is unlikely you will get a designer to design your logo if he or she is not compensated accordingly. Compensation can not only come in the form of money, but can also come as bragging rights as in "I designed the logo for POPULAR Co." Compensation can also come in the form of making the designer feel they made a contribution for a good cause as in "Climate change is an issue I really care about, I'd be glad to design a logo for your non-profit"

Getting the "best" logo

Ideally, we would have all resources to accomplish our dreams. But resources will most likely be limited. To some, "best" means that which is a solution to their ideal.

You may want the ideal logo for your business, but what you need is a practical logo. One that accomplishes your top requirements. If this also happens to be your definition for "best" then hooray!

Getting the cheapest logo

Paying $5 for your logo after a few messages sent via email is not likely to get you logo design. It will most likely get you a logo template with your business name somehow placed in it. The template may look good, but you probably don't know it came from a template. What could possibly go wrong? Yikes!

There are some exceptions where you can get logo design for cheap.

"I need a logo for my new business and I got very little money"

Better have a good cause.

"I am making the world a better place and would like a quick logo to get me started"
